PSYCHOLOGY

You Get What You Focus On So Focus On What You Want

Teramai Sport Psychology helps you train your mind better to train your sport better. With Sport Psychologist Helen Ruud, you’ll develop practical tools for a flexible mindset. Whatever athletic success means for you, better mental fitness will prepare you to face any challenge, setback or triumph with resilience.

"The sport psychology experience has been amazing and Helen has offered me great advice and tactics that have improved my confidence."

"I've experienced many benefits including

self development, self understanding, peer analysis and allowing me to improve my sports behaviour mental even when I’m away from basketball."

Who benefits from Sport Psychology?

Sport Psychology is for more than professional athletes. Sport psych is for any sportsperson, from recreational to amateur to elite, who wants to improve. You might be feeling stuck, like your performance has stagnated no matter what you try. Or you perform well in training, but the pressure of a big event can feel like too much to handle. Competing as a team adds more dimensions: building trust, on-field vs. off-field relationships, communicating under pressure, and more. Whatever your story, working with a sports psychologist can help you build the mental skills and confidence to reach the next level.

Outside of a traditionally athletic environment, teams and individuals can benefit from a sport psychology approach in corporate environments. Building individual resilience and team trust are just as important in business as in sport.

How does it work?

At Teramai Sport Psychology, we have a flexible approach designed to meet your unique needs, but we typically follow three stages: Consultation, Training, and Check-Ins.

Waves

1

Consultation

CONSULTATION

The first step is a 30-45 minute consultation. During this initial meeting, we'll discuss:

  • What's happening in your athletic journey

  • The challenges you're currently facing

  • Your future goals

  • Your expectations from working with a sports psychologist

TRAINING

After our initial consultation, you'll receive a personalized service tailored to your needs. We'll work together on mental tools, skills, and practical exercises to enhance your wellbeing. This could follow a specific program or take a more holistic approach, addressing various aspects of your mental fitness. In Sport Psychology, there's no one-size-fits-all.

Whether one or two sessions are enough, or if we need more, we'll find the right path for you.

2

Training

REGULAR MEETINGS & CHECK-INS

As you begin the training program, we'll schedule regular check-ins (e.g., weekly, biweekly, monthly) to track your progress, review development, address any questions, and evaluate our work. If beneficial and feasible, I can also visit your sporting venue to observe a training session or event firsthand.

Check-Ins

Depending on your personal goals and challenges, our time together and specific approach will vary. Everyone will have a unique journey with sports psychology, but my goal is always to make myself redundant, to ensure that you the client, develop your own mental training skills that are strong enough for you to become self-sufficien. To do this work is a gift, and I am honoured by my clients’ trust and committment.

Cliffs and Ocean
Person first, athlete second - prioritizing you as a person before the athlete.

While my clients usually come in with the goal to improve their and their team's performance, I will always prioritise the person first. If we don’t support the person, we can’t support the athlete. By looking after mental wellbeing, we’re looking after the performer who is a product of that.
